EXCLUSIVE: The Former ‘Pregnant Man’ Debuts His Baby

It’s been three weeks since his blue-eyed baby debuted in this world, but Thomas Beatie – better known around the world as the Pregnant Man – can already say this about his daughter’s personality: “She’s easygoing and mellow and intelligent.”

On June 29 at 8:55 p.m., Beatie, 34, a former female beauty pageant contestant, made cultural history as perhaps the first legally transgender male to give birth, bringing into the world a 9 lbs., 5 oz. baby girl named Susan Juliette.

“She’s so precious, I just can’t stop staring at her,” Thomas tells people in his first interview since he and wife Nancy returned with their bundle from Bend, Oregon’s St. Charles Medical Center. “Just holding her is the best feeling in the world.”

Susan – named after Thomas’s mother and conceived through artificial insemination with donor sperm – arrived after 40 hours of labor, with Nancy at Thomas’s side acting as his coach.

“When Susan finally came out, it was like in slow motion,” says Thomas. “I was full of wonder.” Echoes Nancy: “There were tears of joy.”

Both father and daughter came through the birth in perfect health. “I weigh two pounds less than I did before I got pregnant,” adds Thomas. “And I don’t have a single stretch mark!”

At home, the couple is adjusting to their new nightly schedule: Nancy breastfeeding (by induced lactation, a process using hormones and physical stimulation with a breast pump) and Thomas keeping company while watching TV.

“He’s like hyper baby — he’s crawling so fast!” mom Tameka Foster told Usmagazine.com at the 2008 HollyRod Foundation 10th Annual DesignCare Fundraiser over the weekend.

“He stands up, and he’s walking around the table … it’s amazing to watch him,” added Foster, 38. “I’ve never seen a baby crawl so fast! I call him Dash, like on the Incredibles!”

While Foster called motherhood “wonderful,” she said “every day is a new challenge with him.

“We’re just scared because the baby knows how to get off the bed already, so our bed is like a gigantic crib because we have rails.

“It’s hilarious!” Foster added. “Can you imagine a king-size crib?”

Even though Foster and Usher, 29, who wed in Atlanta last August (see more celebrity wedding photos), have their hands full, they’d like to expand their brood.

“I’d love to have more, we just gotta make the time,” Foster said.

Rap pioneer Joseph Rev Run Simmons and wife Justine have a reason to celebrate. In the latest season of MTV’s reality show Run’s House, the couple will proudly present the newest addition to the family cast: their adopted 10-month-old daughter Miley. In an interview with Jet magazine, the Simmonses discussed the thrill of becoming adoptive parents nearly one year after their daughter Victoria tragically passed away just hours after being born.

The couple also encouraged others who may have trouble conceiving to consider adoption as an option. “There are other women out there who can’t have babies and they keep trying. They get so caught up with ‘I gotta have my own.’ If people knew that they would get that same feeling from adoption, I think more [couples] would adopt and not go through the heartache of trying and miscarrying.”

It’s a remarkable career move by anyone’s standards: from lad’s mag’s favourite to best-selling author.

And Katie Price’s foray into literature has been so successful that she has even beaten off competition from leading writers.

But just when it seemed that there was no end to the model’s extraordinary talents, she has admitted enlisting more than a little help.

Far from writing her own novels, Miss Price – better known as Jordan – instead reveals she merely thinks up the plot – leaving the complex task of conjuring up the golden prose to an assistant.

“I’m not going to lie, I don’t sit there with a typewriter and write it, of course I don’t,” she said.

“I don’t have time to do that. I say how I want the storyline to be, each chapter is done, I read through it change it and then it goes away to be written.

“So I’m not going to sit here and say I write it word by word because I’d be lying. I actually say how I want the story and that’s how it happens.”

So far Miss Price, 30, has written three novels. Her first book, Angel, sold 300,000 copies in the first six weeks when it was released two years ago.

Her second ghost-written novel, Crystal, sold 160,000 copies in the first three months and stormed straight to the top of the hardback best-sellers list.

It even sold better than Andrew Marr’s History of Britain.

Her latest novel Angel Uncovered has been billed by her publishing company as ‘an explosive and highly charged tale of love, lies and celebrities’.

The synopsis bears a striking similarity to her own life. It revolves around fictional WAG Angel Summer who is ‘married to the love of her life, sexy footballer Cal, they have a beautiful baby girl and Angel is Britain’s top glamour model’.

“I’m in this celebrity life with the magazines so I wanted to bring out a book which, you know, sort of is like what you read,” she added in the interview with Virgin Radio.

“It’s all about now, what you read with the WAGs, the arguments, what happened behind the scenes. Not that I know but things that I hear.

“I’m not saying it’s a true story but you can read it and people go ‘actually Kate’s done similar or has she done that’.

“I’ve made the book like where people question ‘do you reckon that’s really happened or hasn’t it?’ I’ve been quite clever.

“Honestly I just enjoy doing them and the others have been successful and I just know it’s a good read.”
