In her debut solo video for Fight For This Love, Cheryl Cole tried to show a new, edgy fashion sense with her military chic.

But as she teams up with Black Eyed Peas rapper Will.I.Am for the atmospheric love song 3 Words, the X Factor judge is sporting a more feminine look.

The net result is, sorry to say it, very regal but a bit on the dull side.

The inspector, however, ruled that their wishes for a hidden pool, gym, spa and ‘plant room’ were not ‘ essential’, preventing them from proceeding with the building work.

England star Cole, 28, and his 26-year-old wife made the initial planning application for their underground swimming pool in October last year.

Once again everyone is talking about The X Factor after performances by Cheryl Cole and Whitney Houston divided viewers and critics.

Cheryl Cole’s debut solo appearance on last night’s show was one of the most eagerly anticipated performances in the show’s history.

Viewers were up in arms last week when it was revealed that the talent show judge would be pre-recording her song and would not be singing it entirely live. There were also rumours that the Girls Aloud singer had banned her husband and other members of the band from watching her perform.

However, last night she did perform it during the live show, while husband Ashley and three of her bandmates looked on. Whether or not she was singing it live we may never know. So, was it any good?

Simon Cowell was definitely impressed, claiming it was ‘incredible’ and that she has a sure-fire number one on her hands, however, not everyone has been so kind.

The Sun says Cheryl appeared ‘petrified’ before taking to the stage and added that she looked like ‘a terrified hopeful’ as she performed.

Cheryl’s shock as X Factor favourite Laura White is booted off the show

Cheryl Cole was unusually lost for words when her protegee Laura White – who had been thought to be one of the favourites – was voted off The X Factor last night.

The 21-year-old from Bolton went head-to-head with Spaniard Ruth Lorenzo, 25, after coming in the bottom two of the public phone voting.

The casting vote fell to Simon Cowell and his decision prompted a furious look from Cheryl.

Saturday’s Mariah Carey-themed show had got off to a bad start for the Girls Aloud singer, who found out just hours before the live broadcast that her contestant Diana Vickers, 17, was too ill to sing.

After being struck down with laryngitis, a specialist told her she could risk damaging her voice forever if she performed.

And it had seemed to be going well for Laura as she performed Endless Love on the piano as well as vocals – the only X Factor contestant to play an instrument.
