While it may have been a good 40 years since Bette Midler last sang “Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match” in Broadway’s Fiddler on the Roof, the Divine Miss M is now ready to play matchmaker herself – to Jennifer Aniston.
“She needs an exciting guy, like a race-car driver,” Midler, whose Las Vegas revue The Showgirl Must Go On marks its 100th show on June 7, told PEOPLE about Aniston. “I think she needs somebody who cherishes her, but also somebody who’s going to give her a run for her money.”
Still in full matchmaker mode, Midler, 63, said, “She should find somebody who is really hot, who’s not in show business. Somebody with a lot of money, and she should live the large life and forget about these a–holes. She’s a great girl. She’s got everything going for her.”
As for the Friends star’s romantic past, Midler said she had had high hopes for Aniston and Vince Vaughn, who dated from 2005 to 2006. “I actually thought Vince Vaughn was great,” she said. “He’s hilarious, he’s good-looking. Jennifer Aniston is the life of the party Tuesday, arriving in a fitted gray Balenciaga dress for Tommy Hilfiger’s Cinema Society screening of her latest comedy, Management, at Landmark’s Sunshine Cinema in New York City.
They wowed Hollywood with a high-profile Oscar date, posing arm-in-arm for photographs in what was largely seen as their official coming out as a couple after a year of off-and-on dating. Then Jennifer Aniston headed to Europe to promote Marley & Me and John Mayer stayed in L.A. to work on his music.
And just days after Aniston returned, they were a couple no more, sources confirm to people.
“They had some disagreements and decided to not continue to see each other,” says one source. “Jen is moving on with her life like she always does. She seems happy.”
