Alexandra Burke has been crowned The X Factor winner of 2008.
The North London singer beat out competition from fellow finalists JLS and Eoghan Quigg to land the prestigious pop honour.
The win means the 20-year-old, who was mentored by Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole, has landed a £1million record contract.
Down to the last two alongside JLS, both acts competed against each other with versions of Leonard Cohen’s classic track Hallelujah. But it was Alexandra – who guest star Beyoncé Knowles earlier described as a ’superstar’ – who secured the majority of the eight million public votes to triumph over the boyband.
Crying almost hysterical tears of joy, she said: ‘Thank you for making my dreams come true everyone. Thank you.’
She then reprised Hallelujah, which will now be released as a single and is the bookies’ favourite to land this year’s Christmas number one, as the 11 other finalists surrounded her onstage. Source
