Jade Goody’s mother Jackiey Budden sparked a security scare at Gatwick airport yesterday after joking that she was carrying a gun in her luggage.
The 51-year-old was strip-searched and questioned for 45 minutes after making the ill-advised quip during check-in, according to reports.
She was eventually released but then came close to missing her flight to Tenerife after the captain refused to let her board the plane.
The alarm was raised by a Thomson check-in staff member who asked the grandmother if she had anything dangerous in her bags, to which she replied: ‘Only my gun!’
‘It was total chaos. They went through her luggage with a fine-tooth comb,’ an airline source is quoted as telling The Sun.
‘Then the captain decided he did not want her and there were some frantic calls from head office to persuade him.’
Jackiey had been jetting off for her first break after losing her 27-year-old daughter to cervical cancer on Mother’s Day.
She was later given ‘words of advice’ by police before being allowed on to the flight.
A spokesperson for Jackiey confirmed that she was on the flight.
Meanwhile Jade’s mother-in-law Mary Tweed says that her son – who is currently serving a 12-week jail term following an assault on a taxi driver – will never find anyone like the reality TV star again.
‘I think he will find it very hard to find somebody like Jade,’ she tells New! magazine.
‘She was his first love and he won’t find anyone quite like her.

‘They were such good friends, too. When Jack was first with her, they’d be on the phone for hours.
‘I was shocked, because he’s normally so quiet. ‘I really couldn’t believe it.’
Asked whether it will take him long to find someone else, his mother said: ‘I think he will take things slowly.
‘I really cannot see him finding anyone for a long time.’
