First Lady Obama steals Rihanna’s style

She’s as at ease rubbing shoulders with the homeless as she is with the world’s most powerful statesmen.

But last night Michelle Obama had an arguably more daunting task – holding her own among some of Hollywood’s hottest stars.

The First Lady presented a flawless face to the celebrity-studded crowd – with her glamorous new look apparently taking inspiration from pop star Rihanna.

Michelle Obama Says New Pooch Bo Is a ‘Crazy’ Dog

The White House’s newest resident is a bit of a liability, but he is just a puppy afterall.

“He likes to play a lot,” Michelle Obama said of Bo, the First Family’s 6-month-old Portuguese Water Dog, during a meet-and-greet for “Take Your Child to Work Day.”

“He’s kind of crazy, but he’s still a puppy,” she confided in the East Room to about 100 children of White House staffers. “He loves to chew on people’s feet.”

She added that curfew is also not something Bo understands yet.

“It was like 10 o’clock. Everybody was asleep and we hear all this barking and jumping around,” Mrs. Obama said. “The president and I came out and we thought somebody was out there. And it was just Bo. He was playing with his ball. And it was like there was another person in the house.” Read the rest of this entry »

Michelle Obama graces cover of Vogue in clothes she chose for the shoot herself

Cover girl: Michelle Obama becomes the second First Lady to ever appear on the cover of Vogue

It’s official: Michelle Obama is the first lady of American fashion, appearing on the cover of the March issue of Vogue.

Every first lady since Lou Hoover – save Bess Truman – has been featured in the high-fashion magazine, but Mrs Obama is only the second to grace the cover.

The only other First Lady to do so was Hillary Clinton.

Mrs Obama appears wearing a magenta silk sheath dress by Jason Wu that she herself chose for the shoot. Wu also designed her inaugural gown.

Much of the eight-page feature inside is devoted to Mrs. Obama’s self-described role as ‘mom in chief’ to 10-year-old Malia and seven-year-old Sasha.

‘I’m going to try to take them to school every morning, as much as I can,’ she said.  source

First dance: Barack and Michelle Obama take to the floor at the Neighbourhood Ball, their first stop of the evening

It was the day he was sworn in as the first black president of the United States.

But despite being the man at the centre of an extraordinary day which made history, there was only one thing on Barack Obama
’s mind.

As the new President and his wife sashayed onstage for the first of no less than ten inaugural balls, he turned to the crowd to ask: ‘First of all, how good-looking is my wife?’

Signed, sealed, delivered: The couple at the Commander-in-Chief Inaugural Ball at the National Building Museum in Washington

Guests at the Neighbourhood Ball responded with a huge cheer while Michelle, who stood shimmering in an off-white, one-shouldered floor-length couture gown, only smiled.

Her dress was embellished from top to bottom with white floral details and was made by designer Jason Wu, 26, who has only been working in fashion for three years.

She appeared as effortlessly elegant as always and stood patiently to one side while her husband, dressed in a black tuxedo with white tie, spoke to the people who had made him President.

Today the new Commander-in-Chief will get down to the business of remaking America.  source

What Kind of Dog Should Malia & Sasha Get?

Not since Knut, the polar bear, has an animal so captured the public’s imagination – and this one hasn’t even been found yet.

Speaking before the world at his victory rally in Chicago on Tuesday night, President-elect Barack Obama told daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7: “I love you more than you can imagine, and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House.”

It’s among many promises the candidate made during the campaign – and one he’ll be keeping, for sure. But what breed – or breeds – should the new First Puppy be?

For starters, says ASPCA president and CEO Ed Sayres, “We are thrilled at the prospect that the Obama Family will ‘make pet adoption their first option’ and head to their local animal shelter or rescue group [where] they could both find the perfect pet and help an animal in need, which would be an incredible opportunity.” Read the rest of this entry »
